Western-Style Wedding on Upcountry Maui | Chantel + Kaena
Chantel and Kaena's Western-style wedding was filled with dancing, heartfelt details and beautiful Hawaiian wedding traditions. From their ceremony where they were surrounded by the upcountry Maui breeze to them tearing up the dance floor during their reception, this day was such a pleasure to capture.
A Western Love Story
Chantel and Kaena first met while working the concessions booth at the Oskie Rice Arena rodeo. Years later, they married in the same place they met, celebrating their love with friends and family and dancing the whole night away!
Their Western-Style Wedding Details
The beauty of upcountry Maui was truly reflected in Chantel and Kaena's Western-style wedding. Upcountry Maui is considered "ka home aʻo paniolo," or "the home of the cowboy" and the Western influence, sprinkled with Hawaiian wedding customs, was wonderfully incorporated into every part of their day.
The blowing of the pū, a conch shell horn, started off their Western-style wedding ceremony, announcing the arrival of Chantel and Kaena. But before their arrival, the bridal party made their entrance, with Chantel's bridesmaids carrying bouquet hoops made with an old lasso Chantel used in a rodeo competition. Later, Kaena arrived, making his way to the floral-designed cross arbor and wearing a cowboy hat and ti leaf lei. Then Chantel made a grand entrance, arriving from her dad's semi-truck.
After the ceremony, the bridal party celebrated with some drinks before taking a drive through town and partying in the back of a pickup truck!
For their Western-style wedding reception, Chantel and Kaena really set the tone for the night, dancing their way into the clubhouse and having the most fun! There were even games like Jenga, cornhole and plastic steers for the little rodeo stars to practice their lasso skills.
